One day, 14 years ago,
a young black cat
found Shari at a park.
It was New Year's Day so,
when the cat followed her home,
she named it Shogotsu which,
in Japanese, translates as New Year.
Shogi grew to be a big beautiful cat
who used her voice very expressively,
was very willing to demand the things
she wanted or needed, and ruled the roost.
Our dogs, Kapu and Django,
lived in fear of her blindingly fast paw.
She was a beautiful and sweet cat
who opened our hearts,
and shined light onto all who knew her.
(except for the dogs, of course.)
She lived a good life and,
after a brief illness,
left us on the afternoon of October 2nd.
We will cherish your memory always, Shogi!
