Our fish are named Spotless and Lucky. Spotless originally was named Spot because he had a spot, but the spot went away. Lucky was won at a carnival.
Our dogs are named Kapu and Django. We’ve had Kapu since he was a puppy. The name comes from a book my daughter really liked when she was younger, Julie Of The Wolves. Django was named by me, after a famous jazz guitar player. The summer before last, Django just showed up at our front door. He’d been on the streets for a while, and was looking for a home. I invited him in, and he got along well with Kapu, and our 3 cats. We put up color posters all over the neighborhood, and at the local animal shelters but, eventually, he became one of the family.
My cat, Barney, had been suffering from some sort of kidney ailment for several years. Although we cared for him in the best way we could, he continued to waste away until he was just skin and bones. Up until the very end he enjoyed his life. When I saw that his health was finally failing, I put him to sleep.
My wife’s cat, Shogot-su (Japanese for New Year) got sick and died just a few days after Barney went. I think this was entirely unrelated, though. The loss was pretty tough.
Our remaining cat is a small tabby named Violet:

And last, but not least, our goldfish. Spotless is on the right:

My first and only kitty, Barney, left us recently, as did Shari’s much beloved cat Shogi.
I created wee tribute pages for Barney & Shogi.
Please post comments here.

I was talking to a friend the other day, discussing the 45 second track I produced for the upcoming vinyl compilation I was invited to participate in. I learned that another compilation was in the works, but this one had a slightly different spin.
The project, “Sloppy Seconds,” will feature 80 one minute tracks. Each one minute track will comprise 60 one second submissions, each from a different artist or group, totalling at 3600 individual submissions. Of course, I had to make one.
If the player, above, doesn’t work, you can
download the file here
.
Also, you can
hear the one minute track
that has my one second composition in it.
Please leave comments, as I always welcome feedback!

Lauren’s school had a fund raising event and she did quite well. In addition to raking in money for the school, she also got a ton of prizes. For example, she got a wee digital camera, some free music downloads, a phone, and an inflatable chair.
Here she is enjoying the latter.

In the process of sorting through the detritus of my life I happened upon a cassette tape labeled “Sander’s Apology.” I had no specific recollection of recording an apology, but did remember making tapes of radio broadcasts when I was a kid living in Santa Monica. We lived in Santa Monica from about 1968-1971. The tape was full on both sides, and contained a few surprises. Here are some excerpts:
Sander's Apology
is, well, an apology to my father. The context isn’t exactly clear, but I can tell I’m trying very hard to be sincere.

Sierra is a lovely young lady who goes to Lauren’s old school. She and Lauren are friends, and we all enjoy her company when she visits. She’s a wonderful human being, with lots of wonderful qualities such as intelligence, humor, sweetness, cuteness, and our dogs love her.
She asked me to post a pic of her here, so I’m going to:
And here are some more!
We had a wee birthday celebration for Sierra at our house:
Make a wish!
I hope it comes true!

Carnita and the Magic Pozole
By Sander Roscoe Wolff
Once upon a time there was a dry dusty desert. Wolves and mice fought for seeds, cougars ate leaves, and everyone was hungry. One day a little girl named Carnita was walking to the store. Her mother had given her three pennies to buy a bag of beans. On the way she met a Bruja named Asada.
“I know you’ve got three pretty pennies, Carnita,” said Asada. “If you give them to me, I’ll give you a bowl of Magic Pozole!”
Carnita, not one to be fooled easily, was suspicious.
